The Silk Mill was built by the Dexter, Lambert & Company in 1880 and operated as a Silk Mill from 1880 until 1956. It was the first large scale silk mill factory in North Eastern Pennsylvania. To this day it is still the largest laid bluestone building in the world with a rich history of alternative energy use and was once a hydro-powered factory. It has always been an important regional economic and historic resource to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Region.
