Community leaders predict the top 40 things that will affect Northeastern Pennsylvania in the next 40 years. The Hawley Silk Mill Project ranks in the Top 40. The adaptive reuse development will create hundreds of jobs generating over $7 million in salaries and is projected to contribute an additional $7 million yearly in economic benefits for the local economy. The Top 40 list was created by Happenings Magazine and released this month (December 2009). The Silk Mill project has attracted Lackawanna College as a tenant/partner and is working to develop technology jobs, prevent brain drain, promote alternative energy, and create an entrepreneur and business incubator. Lackawanna College will offer 2+2 programs in Hawley which will allow students to pursue a four year degree with University and College Partners.
